The magazine was created by Georges Chérière in Angers, France under the title Diapason donne le ton dans l'Ouest and the first issue was published in Paris, 1956.

It was founded by Pierre Lazareff and his wife Hélène Gordon in 1945. The title, in French, means "she". Robbie Myers is the editor in chief.
